Traditional Building

All our products are hand made in the traditional way from locally sourced English oak, sweet chestnut or hazel. They will maintain the character and integrity of a building. Please enquire as to availability (currently most products are made to order).

Cleft Oak Shingles. Here being reinstalled on the roof of an Essex barn.

Cleft oak sarking (the roof lining) which has given an amazing light and textured feel to this extension in Essex. The cleft oak was four feet long by approx 4 inches wide and approx 5 to 10mm thick. They were overlapped at the thinner edge to give a gap free finish.

 

Cleft Oak Lath. The traditional base for lime mortar. 1.25" X 0.25" in 4' lengths. Here seen at the Corinthian Arch, NT Stowe, in need of repair.

 

Cleft Oak Battens. 1.25" X 0.5".
